About the shower: inside, it's a normal size (the base is a standard 32 by 32 inches). The one quirk is the entry: the glass doors could not open to their full width, so the opening you step through is about 8 inches narrower than usual. Once you're in, it's a regular shower, and even the biggest member of our build crew had no problem. If a narrower step-through opening is a concern, or you have limited mobility, we're happy to help you decide before you book.
Fire station nearby: the station sits on the corner. If a daytime call comes in you may hear the siren from the house. The department does not sound the alarm at night, so evenings and sleep stay quiet.
The neighborhood: we sit right on the Saugerties/Woodstock border, on the stretch of Route 212 that connects the two: the village of Saugerties (shops, restaurants, the historic lighthouse) is about 8 minutes east, and Woodstock's village green is about 12 minutes west. It's a quiet, countryside spot with two famous Hudson Valley towns as your bookends. You'll want a car up here; parking is free in the shared driveway.
